71 year old pensionier sues ASUU over Strike

A 71-year-old pensioner in Kano State, Mallam Dankano Garba Ahmed, has dragged the Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) and eight others to the National Industrial Court of Nigeria over the ongoing strike embarked upon by the union.

The pensioner in suit number NICN/KN/161/2013 said the strike is affecting the education of his daughter who is a 400 level Civil Engineering student at the Bayero University Kano.

In the affidavit in support of the originating summon, the pensioner accused the union of frustrating his efforts to get his daughter, Zainab Garba Ahmed, out of school within the stipulated time. "The strike by the union is making my daughter who is the second plaintiff, idle, disorganised and psychologically disturbed. Being a 71- year-old man who earns less than N30,000 as pension, the strike of the union irritates me," he said.
He added, "I have other children who I wish to sponsor, but that is subject to the successful graduation of this my daughter. Her future and that of thousand others across the country are being stagnated strategically by the ongoing strike".
The pensioner is asking the court to determine whether the agreement dated 21 October 2009, entered between ASUU and the Federal Government is valid, binding, and not illegal having regards to the provision of Section 3(1) (d) of the BUK Act as well as other statutes establishing the universities owned by the Federal Government of Nigeria. "If the answer to the issue is in the negative, the court should also determine whether ASUU has a right to embark on strike for failure/ or refusal of the Federal Government to implement the said agreement," part of the affidavit read.

The pensioner is seeking perpetual injunction restraining ASUU from continuing with the strike or taking any action whatsoever and by whatever means to enforce the said agreement or compel the Federal Government to implement it.

Android users warned against fake bbm

Users of mobile devices running Google's Android operating system were warned Wednesday against downloading a so-called BBM (Blackberry Messenger) for Android app, which is adware in disguise.

 Security researcher Graham Cluley said the fake "BBM for Android" app appears to exploit a recent announcement by BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins that BBM may go multi-platform and be available for iPhone and Android sometime this year.   "

(So far), more than 100,000 people were duped into installing adware that will put money into the pockets of scammers who simply stumbled across the simple plan of pretending their app was the hotly-anticipated BBM for Android," Cluley said on his website.  

He noted the app managed to make it to Android's app store Google Play, as “blackberry messenger bbm” from RIM.
 Yet, Cluley said users should have started suspecting something is wrong, as RIM is BlackBerry's former name.   He advised Android users to take care over what apps they install, and "read the app’s reviews and check that you are familiar with the developer."  
"Ultimately, you get to decide what apps get to run on your Android phone," he said.   Cluley said the app, once downloaded and run, will display a screen claiming it will not start working until June 27.   But the app will then ask the user to grant permission for the StartApp advertising network to install icons and bookmarks.  

Meanwhile, Cluley chided the Google Play staff for allowing the app into the marketplace.   "Yes, they do try to weed out unsavoury Android apps, but it’s nothing like the iron fist that Apple applies," he said.   "Most Android users assume that if an app is in the official Google Play store, it must be safe to install on their phone. The truth, sadly, is rather different," he added.

Kim and Kanye trap friends with fake pictures of baby North West

Smart One! Kim and her baby daddy Kanye sent fake pictures of their daughter North West to their friends in order to catch the "judas" who would sell the picture to magazines

According to TMZ,
Kim felt people in her world were going to hawk baby photos, so she wanted to catch the culprits quickly.  We're told Kim hatched a plan and sent a half-dozen of her "friends" pictures of a baby she claimed was North West -- but we're told it was an impostor infant.

Sure enough ... someone came along and tried selling us this pic (above).  Gotta say ... it looks like it could be Kim and Kanye's baby.  It has the right ... well, you know ... but Kim would obviously pick a pic of an impostor baby that had the qualities of her own child.

Our K & K sources have seen the pic and claim it's not the real deal.

By the way ... we also got hold of another pic of a baby Kim sent to several other friends -- Bogus Baby #2.  We're told she's waiting to see if someone tries to sell this one as well. 

 

Nigeria protests UK's imposal of bond to Nigerian Visitors

Nigeria has summoned Britain's top diplomat to protest that country's plans to impose a 3,000-pound ($4,630) bond on visas for first-time visitors from "high-risk" countries in Africa and Asia.

A government statement says Foreign Affairs Minister Olugbenga A. Ashiru expressed "the strong displeasure of the government and people of Nigeria" over the "discriminatory" policy.

He warned British High Commissioner Andrew Pocock at a meeting at his office in Abuja on Tuesday that the move would "definitely negate" the two country's commitment to double trade by 2014.

Britain is proposing the pilot scheme for first-time visitors from its former colonies in Ghana, Nigeria, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. The bond will be refunded when the visitor leaves Britain.

British government figures indicate 101,000 Nigerians were granted visas in 2012.

Chris Brown accused of assaulting a lady....Again!

Chris Brown is being accused of living up to his bad-boy reputation. E! News has learned that the singer has been accused of assaulting a woman at a San Diego nightclub on Saturday evening.

The Anaheim Police Department confirmed that they received a phone call from a woman alleging that she was pushed by the rapper during his performance at Heat Ultra Lounge at 9:30 p.m. on Sunday night. She claimed that she was pushed and injured, but did not meet with the police in person regarding the incident.

The investigation is currently ongoing, and police have not revealed the identity of the woman involved in the alleged incident. E! News exclusively spoke with the operational manager at the nightclub who claimed to hear that Brown had "moved someone out of the way" after his set and that "perhaps the incident is being blown out of proportion."

Brown, apparently responding to reports of the incident, tweeted, "I didn't do anything." His tweet has since been deleted.

Earlier this month, the "Fine China" singer was in court to discuss discovery materials stemming from his 2009 assault case. The L.A. County District Attorney's Office had accused the Grammy winner of providing shoddy documentation concerning the 180 hours of community labor he supposedly completed as part of his sentence for assaulting Rihanna. Per the current terms of his sentence, he is on probation until next summer. The judge set a preliminary hearing date for July 15 to determine whether they should move forward with a probation-violation charge. No word yet on how the latest assault allegations may affect Brown's ongoing court case.

UPDATE: Heat management is standing by Brown, with Mike Joher of Royal Entertainment telling E! News in a statement that, based on information gathered from their security, mall security and other partygoers, "it is apparent that the alleged incident regarding Chris Brown is fales." According to the club, Brown's accuser was trying to jump on the stage and "there was no way that he could have touched her, his section was roped off and he had heavy security surrounding him. Witnesses state that she was persistently trying to rush Chris" and was "eventually removed from the club."

Heat also alleges that the woman threw her shoes at club security as she was being escorted out and, while they thought about calling the cops, they allowed her to just leave. Brown "was a complete gentleman and remained professional throughout the entire night," Joher concluded. "Neither I, nor any of the witnesses we spoke to, saw him push or touch

Citizens of Nigerian and some developing countries in Africa and Asia seeking entry into the United Kingdom will from November this year begin the payment of £3,000 bond.

According to reports, the £3,000 bond, which will be paid in cash, will serve as a security against foreigners living in the country illegally after the expiration of their visas. Visitors will lose the bond payment only when they overstay their visas.

The UK Home Secretary, Theresa May, was quoted as saying that the bond would go a long way in recovering costs incurred by foreign nationals who enjoy public services in the country when they overstay their visas. Apart from Nigeria, the pilot scheme of the new policy targets citizens of India, Pakistan, Ghana, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh coming to Britain on six-month visit visas.

The countries have been picked for their high number of visa applications and what the government sees as relatively high levels of immigration abuse and fraud, according to the Sunday Times. May said, "This is the next step in making sure our immigration system is more selective, bringing down net migration from the hundreds of thousands to the tens of thousands while still welcoming the brightest and the best to Britain. "In the long run we're interested in a system of bonds that deters overstaying and recovers costs if a foreign national has used our public services.''

The second scheme is scheduled to cover countries regarded as ”low risk” and may later be extended to cover work permits and student visas. About 2.2 million people are granted visas to enter Britain every year while an estimated 101,000 Nigerians were granted six-month visas to the UK in 2012.

Rapper kanye west had always had always intended to name his Child North West and little did we know he'll go through with it!
TMZ reported Thursday the couple has chosen to name their baby daughter North -- as in North West. The website cited the birth certificate from L.A.'s Cedars-Sinai hospital, where the baby was delivered Saturday.
E! News cited sources who confirmed the baby's name, reporting that the baby has no middle name and that the new parents plan to call her "Nori" for short.

"I dont do cheap money" wizkid replies unilag students

After being summoned to zone 2 police station over UniLag students' allegation, popstar and star records artiste Wizkid has decided to reply Unilag students saying he doesnt do cheap money.

Wizkid was accused of collecting the sum of N500,000 for a concert in unilag on May 21st and not showing up. He was alleged to not have returned the money. The students reported to the police and Wizkid was summoned. After questioning, wizkid wrote a statement and was bailed. No official statement has been released by Wizkid but we suspect the money was collected by an impostor.
